| HM King lifts the state of emergency in Nepal
Kathmandu ...Within a few hours after returning from 3-nation tour of East Asia, His Majesty King Gyanendra, Friday, lifted the state of Emergency as per Article 115 (11) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-1990, the Royal Palace?s Press Secretariat said.
According to a Secretariat?s statement issued late Friday, the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) would continue to function under a 17-point charter.
Issuing a message to the nation upon his return on Friday, King Gyanendra said the Asian-African summit in Jakarta provided opportunities to world leaders to share their experiences in fighting the challenges arising from terrorism, underdevelopment and instability.
He said he was happy to return home after participating in the summit and the annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia. The King said that he got the opportunity to exchange views on his 1 February move which was taken against terrorism in the country with Chinese president Hu Jintao, Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh, Pakistani president Pervez Mussaraf and UN secretary general Kofi Annan. |
